More Excuses

Oh boy. Sorry for the lack of awesomeness lately. I'm sure all your lives have been totally dull without my fascinating banter to read everyday.

In case you missed that, I'm being sarcastic.

I still have no evidence that anyone is actually reading this, but I apologize for my inconsistency never the less.

But if you are reading this, perhaps checking it regularly, maybe laughing at my corny jokes.. you are awesome, (you could be supremely awesome if you left a comment or two..). But I cannot expect anyone to read if I don't write.
So here I am, at 7:00 in the morning, with my cold coffee and knotted up headphones trying to decide what to write about...

..............................................................................................
HEY! What if I wrote about the thing I actually started this whole blog for! ENCYCLOPEDIAS!

(uuuugggggghhhhhhhhhh...) Oh yeah. I am way behind on that too. Same old lousy excuse.

You know what my problem is? Don't answer that.
My problem is that I keep underestimating stuff. I'll say a the beginning of the year, "Read an entire set of encyclopedias in ONE year? In addition to school, family, possibly work and all that other stuff that takes up 90% of my time? Heck, yeah! I'll find time! And HEY! I'll even write about it on the internet for the whole world to see!"

Well, I can say that I'm in B now. Yaaaayy me. I found some interesting stuff in A (Africa, Aardvarks, etc.) but I just never got around to writing about them.
So. I will try to read and write more consistently. I guess I'm just not one of those super-bloggers who can raise twenty-five children, read three-dozen novels in a day, cook meals for their family and 14 and a half other families and make a mosaic on their kitchen floor. AND read hundred books in a year and run a marathon. So, if you are reading this, and find that you can relate in any way, or not, please let me know what you think.

Thats All Folks

-Signing off.

Back again, or rather, finally.

At Starbucks again, this time with a Mocha somethingorother and a pink cupcake. Very tasty.
Nothing particularly interesting to write about. Inspiration is in short supply. Try as I might, I cant seem to write about 'A'. I'm almost at Africa, then we will have something to talk about.
I find Africa fascinating, and hope to go there one day. Maybe "Antelope' will be fun.
Heck, I dont know. I'm just rambling.

Books. Thats what we'll talk about today. Books..

Did you know, that before the printing press was invented, everything was written by hand? Of course you did. Everyone knows that. I mean, its not like they had computers or anything. Just hands. But they did have block print, you know, they carved each letter for a page on a block of wood, inked it, and put it on paper. Yep. They did that in China first, but have you seen their alphabet? Its beautiful, but totally complicated. Can you imagine carving each and every character for a whole book onto a block of wood! No thankyou. I will stick with my laptop.
Yeah..
Now we have SO many books! Its crazy! There are books on everything from Alfred Hitchcock to Xylophones. Biographies on every famous person you could think of. Nicholas Cage is a wackjob incase you were wondering.
Yeah, theres a book about him too.
But anyway I dont have time to write about him. I have to go communicate with extraterrestrials and stare at the ceiling for a few hours. Then its off to my Jello making class.

So bye for now. Don't talk to strangers and always look both ways when you cross the street.

Talk to ya later.

{Don't forget to comment ;)}

Starbucks and Excuses.

Dear Me. It has been a while. I offer my most heartfelt apologies to whoever may be reading this. IF anyone is reading this..

Any way. Here I am at Starbucks, because sadly, the internet at my home has been lost indefinitely. But love will find a way. (pauses for laughter). But I must say, Going to Starbucks is way more fun than sitting at a desk trying to think of something to write about.
And there's coffee. With fancy stuff on top.

So, lets get down to business. My encyclopedia status is a bit embarrassing. But I am reading. At a (ahem) reasonable (ahem) pace. But seriously, it's not like I'm lying around eating snickers bars and playing pacman 24/7. I do have things to do. Then there's the no internet factor.

So here I am in Starbucks, listening to Jacob Dylan (involuntarily) and drinking my fancy coffee with fancy stuff on top. Wow! I feel like a real person!

Thats all we have time for now.. Have a lovely week and don't forget: Always eat your veggies, help old people across the street and DON'T litter.

TTFN.

Crusades.

Well it is finally the weekend. I must admit, I have nothing really important to write about right now. I am reading frequently, but nothing particularly fascinating. So, I will just sit here and write whatever pops into my head.
It is a journal after all.

I have decided to write about the Crusades, because I find that period in history interesting in so many ways and I would love to share with you.

When the Turks invaded and conquered the Holy Land, it became almost impossible for Christian Pilgrims to reach their places of worship there. Before the Turks came, the Holy Land was inhabited by Arabs, who weren't converted to The Muslim religion yet and were more tolerant of Christians. The Muslim Turks, on the other hand were not at all tolerant, because they had been taught by Muhammad that all infidels should be killed.

So, Pope Urban II resolved to do something about this. He called for a Crusade to recapture Jerusalem and the Holy Land. He said that all those who fought would be granted free remission of sins and forgiven of all debts to the Church. Pretty Sweet right? Well, thats what the Crusaders thought. Because they didn't know the great news of Christ: That they don't have to do anything to get remission of sin. All they had to do was ask for Gods forgiveness. Because Christ came and took our punishment by dying on the Cross.
However, Urban Failed to mention this, and the people were deceived.

The First Crusades goal was to recapture Jerusalem. It lasted from 1096 to 1099.

{Something kinda fun}

Did I mention that I make jewelry? Well I do. And I will show you some now. I sell sometimes, at local craft shows, and I love combining my jewelry hobby with my photography hobby like I've done here:

This necklace is one of my favorites. Just copper wire and gold beads and red beads.

This pair was a little tricky.. But I liked the out come. Copper is in lately and I love gold. Plus: everyone likes the backed hooks, right?
Tell me what you think!

{Sincerely Me}.

Wednesday..

Oy. Its been a long day. I'll spare all you lovely people the gruesome details though.
I did get around to reading the Encyclopedia though! I read about Aardvarks.

Incidentally, they are quite famous for being the first thing in most dictionaries and encyclopedias. They are a funny looking animal, with a long snout which is used to collect ants and termites. They are also known as ant-eaters. There is a TV show called Arthur, which is about 'the friendliest Aardvark you'll ever get a chance to meet!'. However, in actuality, they look absolutely nothing like the one in the movie.

They look like This:

They are native to Africa and though they look somewhat like pigs to the untrained eye, they are not at all related to pigs.
And the word Aardvark means Earth Hog in Afrikaans.

Well. Now you know.

Come back again!

Windex. (And other intriguing things..)

It's interesting to look at everyday, household objects, and think (really think) about them. Where did they come from? Who looked at that particular thing and decided to eat it. For instance: Who first looked at an onion, chopped it up and said, "Gee! This thing tastes horrible! I think I'll put it in my sandwich!".
I was wondering these things about Windex. So, I looked it up.
Now, I have to admit that this has nothing to do with my encyclopedia goal. I am not in W yet.
But I thought I'd share what I learned with you..

Windex has been manufactured since 1933, when Erich Drafahl invented it. It contains Detergents, Ammonia, and fragrances to mask the odor of the ammonia. It remains the most popular glass and household cleaner on the market. Because of its flammability and high solvency it used to be sold in metal cans. It has been modified somewhat since then.

So. Now you know all about windex and you can go off and impress your friends. I will have some A stuff ASAP.

Thats all Folks!

The First Post.

Alrighty. Here we are.

Before we start here are a few things you should know about Advice From a Caterpillar:

1. I have never blogged before, so bear with me.

2. Alice in Wonderland is the best book ever.

3. I am an American. And I do not support Obama.

4. Coke will always be better than Pepsi, and Macs will always be better than PC's. (this is not meant to offend anyone. Just my personal opinion.)

5. Chocolate cures whatever ails you, but chocolate milk gives you super powers.

6. Calvin And Hobbes, is and always will be, the funniest comic ever. Runner up is Get Fuzzy.

7. I promise to write as constructively, entertainingly, and interestingly as possible.

So. Here we go. I am reading the encyclopedias, starting now. I will check in with you every so often with status reports and interesting tidbits of information.
Thankyou all for reading. Please leave comments and let me know what you think.
